Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) is a private university with its main campuses located in Teaneck and Hackensack, New Jersey, United States. It was founded in 1942 by Dr. Peter Sammartino and his wife, Sylvia. The university is named after its benefactor, Fairleigh S. Dickinson, co-founder of Becton Dickinson.

History

Fairleigh Dickinson University was established in 1942 as a junior college. It became a four-year institution in 1948 and gained university status in 1956. The university has expanded over the years to include multiple campuses and a variety of academic programs.
