Rajkot (Gujarati: રાજકોટ) is a city in the state of Gujarat, India. It is the fourth-largest city in Gujarat, after Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vadodara. Rajkot is the administrative headquarters of the Rajkot district.
History
Rajkot was founded by Thakur Saheb Vibhaji Ajoji Jadeja in 1612. The city has a rich history and was once the capital of the Saurashtra State before it merged with Bombay State in 1956. Rajkot played a significant role in the Indian independence movement, with notable figures such as Mahatma Gandhi having spent part of their lives here.
