History[edit]

Formation and Early Years (1992–1996)[edit]

Hanson was formed in 1992 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by brothers Isaac, Taylor, and Zac Hanson. Initially, they performed as an a cappella group, singing classic songs and their own compositions. They gained local popularity and began to perform at various events and festivals.

Breakthrough with Middle of Nowhere (1997)[edit]

In 1997, Hanson released their major label debut album, Middle of Nowhere, under Mercury Records. The album's lead single, "MMMBop", became a worldwide hit, reaching number one in 27 countries. The success of Middle of Nowhere propelled Hanson to international fame and earned them three Grammy Award nominations.

Continued Success and Independent Label (1998–2006)[edit]

Following the success of Middle of Nowhere, Hanson released their second studio album, This Time Around, in 2000. The album showcased a more mature sound and included the hit single "This Time Around". Despite positive reviews, the album did not achieve the same level of commercial success as their debut.

In 2003, Hanson founded their own independent record label, 3CG Records, and released their third studio album, Underneath, in 2004. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard Independent Albums chart and included the single "Penny & Me".

Recent Years (2007–present)[edit]

Hanson has continued to release music and tour extensively. Their subsequent albums include The Walk (2007), Shout It Out (2010), Anthem (2013), and String Theory (2018). The band also celebrated their 25th anniversary in 2017 with the release of the compilation album Middle of Everywhere – The Greatest Hits and a world tour.

Musical Style and Influences[edit]

Hanson's music is primarily pop rock, with influences from soul, R&B, and rock music. Their early work was characterized by catchy melodies and youthful energy, while their later albums have showcased a more mature and diverse sound.

Philanthropy[edit]

Hanson is known for their philanthropic efforts, particularly in support of AIDS research and poverty alleviation in Africa. They have organized various charity events and campaigns, including the annual "The Walk" tour, where they encourage fans to walk one mile barefoot to raise awareness and funds for those in need.

Discography[edit]

Awards and Nominations[edit]

Hanson has received numerous awards and nominations throughout their career, including three Grammy Award nominations for their debut album Middle of Nowhere.
