Megafauna refers to the large or giant animals of a particular region, habitat, or geological period. The term is most commonly used in the context of the Pleistocene epoch, which is known for its large and diverse megafaunal assemblages. These include many species that are now extinct, such as the woolly mammoth, saber-toothed cats, and the giant ground sloth. The study of megafauna encompasses various scientific disciplines, including paleontology, ecology, and conservation biology.
