List of Italian IGT wines

Italian IGT Wines or Indicazione Geografica Tipica wines are a classification of wine from Italy. This classification is one step below the Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) and Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) classifications, but above the basic Vino da Tavola (table wine) designation.

The IGT classification was introduced in 1992 to accommodate the rising class of super-premium wines that did not fit within the DOC or DOCG categories. These wines are often made from international grape varieties and are sometimes blended with traditional Italian varieties.

List of Italian IGT Wines

Below is a list of some of the most notable Italian IGT wines:

• Toscana IGT: This is the most famous IGT classification, home to many of the so-called "Super Tuscan" wines. These wines often blend Sangiovese with international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

• Veneto IGT: This classification is known for its rich, full-bodied red wines made from Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara grapes.

• Sicilia IGT: Sicily's IGT wines are often made from the indigenous Nero d'Avola grape, but international varieties are also used.

• Umbria IGT: Umbria's IGT wines are known for their use of the Sagrantino grape, often blended with Sangiovese.

• Puglia IGT: Puglia's IGT wines are typically robust reds made from Primitivo, Negroamaro, and Malvasia grapes.
