PHCCC is a selective, non-competitive antagonist at the metabotropic glutamate receptor subtype mGluR4. It has been used in scientific research to explore the role of mGluR4 in the central nervous system.

Pharmacology

PHCCC acts as a positive allosteric modulator at mGluR4. This means it binds to a site on the receptor different from the glutamate binding site, and enhances the receptor's response to its natural ligand, glutamate. The exact binding site of PHCCC on mGluR4 is not known, but it is thought to be within the seven-transmembrane domain of the receptor.

Uses in Research

PHCCC has been used in research to investigate the role of mGluR4 in various neurological and psychiatric disorders. For example, it has been used in studies of Parkinson's disease, schizophrenia, and anxiety disorders. These studies have suggested that mGluR4 may be a potential therapeutic target for these conditions.

Chemistry

PHCCC is a synthetic compound. Its chemical name is (RS)-N-phenyl-7-(hydroxyimino)cyclopropa[b]chromen-1a-carboxamide. It is usually supplied as a white to off-white powder.

Safety

As with all research chemicals, PHCCC should be handled with care. It is not intended for human consumption.
