Critical Care is a peer-reviewed medical journal that covers research in the field of intensive care medicine. The journal publishes articles on a broad range of topics related to critical care, including clinical trials, epidemiology, health services and outcomes research, and model development.

History[edit]

The journal was established in 1997. It is published by BioMed Central, a publisher of open access journals. The editor-in-chief is Jean-Louis Vincent, a professor of intensive care at the University of Brussels.

Content[edit]

Critical Care publishes original research, review articles, commentaries, and letters to the editor. The journal covers all aspects of critical care, including anesthesiology, cardiology, surgery, infectious diseases, and neurology. It also publishes articles on the management of severe, life-threatening health problems, such as septic shock, respiratory failure, and traumatic brain injury.

Abstracting and indexing[edit]

The journal is abstracted and indexed in PubMed Central, Scopus, EMBASE, and the Science Citation Index Expanded. According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2019 impact factor of 6.959.

Open access[edit]

As an open access journal, all articles published in Critical Care are freely available to read, download, and share. The journal operates under the Creative Commons Attribution License, which allows others to distribute and copy the articles, provided the original work is properly cited.
