The Annals of Anatomy was first published in 1886 by Gustav Fischer Verlag, a German publishing house. The journal was initially published in German under the title Anatomischer Anzeiger. In 1991, the journal started publishing articles in English and changed its name to Annals of Anatomy - Anatomischer Anzeiger.
