Osaka is a city in the Kansai region of Japan. It is the capital city of Osaka Prefecture and the largest component of the Keihanshin Metropolitan Area, the second largest metropolitan area in Japan and among the largest in the world with more than 20 million inhabitants.

History

Osaka's history dates back to the Asuka period (538-710), when it served as the center of Japan. During the Edo period (1603-1868), Osaka was an important economic center and a hub for rice trade.

Geography

Osaka is located on the main island of Honshu, near the mouth of the Yodo River on Osaka Bay. The city is divided into 24 wards, each with its own distinct character and attractions.

Economy

Osaka is a major economic hub, home to large corporations such as Panasonic, Sharp, and Suntory. The city is also known for its thriving small business sector, particularly in the areas of food and fashion.

Culture

Osaka is renowned for its vibrant street food culture, particularly in areas such as Dotonbori and Shinsekai. The city is also home to many cultural institutions, including the Osaka Castle, Osaka Science Museum, and National Bunraku Theatre.

Transportation

Osaka is served by a comprehensive transportation network, including the Osaka Metro, JR West, and Kansai International Airport.

Sports

Osaka is home to two J-League soccer teams, Gamba Osaka and Cerezo Osaka, and hosts the annual Osaka Grand Sumo Tournament.
