Vorarephilia (often shortened to vore) is a paraphilia characterized by the erotic desire to be consumed by, or sometimes to personally consume, another person or creature, or an erotic attraction to the process of eating in general practice. The fantasy usually involves the victim being swallowed whole, though occasionally the victims are chewed up, and digestion may or may not be included. Vorarephilia can be expressed in many ways, which may be influenced by furry culture, anime and manga, or other artistic expressions.

Etymology

The term "vorarephilia" is derived from the Latin vorare (to swallow or devour), and the Greek -philia (love). The term was coined by the internet community in the late 20th century, and has been used in various internet forums and online communities since then.

Characteristics

Vorarephilia can be categorized into several sub-genres, depending on the nature of the fantasy. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Soft vore: This involves the victim being swallowed whole and alive, and is usually devoid of gore. The emphasis is on the act of swallowing, and the victim may be regurgitated.
  • Hard vore: This involves the victim being chewed or torn apart, and can involve gore. The emphasis is on the act of destruction and consumption.
  • Macro/Micro vore: This involves a size difference between the predator and prey, with the predator being significantly larger.
  • Same-size vore: This involves the predator and prey being of similar size.

Psychological Aspects

The psychological aspects of vorarephilia are complex and can vary greatly among individuals. Some people are aroused by the thought of being eaten, some by the process of eating, and others by the idea of eating someone else. It is often associated with themes of dominance and submission, and can involve elements of masochism and sadism.

In Popular Culture

Vorarephilia has been depicted in various forms of media, including literature, film, and video games. It is often used as a form of shock value or to explore themes of dominance, submission, and power dynamics.
