Gulph Mills, Pennsylvania

Gulph Mills, Pennsylvania is a small unincorporated community located in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. It is recognized for its historical significance and its close proximity to the city of Philadelphia.

History[edit]

Gulph Mills was named after the Gulph Creek that runs through the area. The "Gulph" refers to the gap in the hills through which the creek flows. The community played a significant role in the American Revolutionary War. The Continental Army camped near Gulph Mills after the Battle of White Marsh and before moving to its winter quarters at Valley Forge.

Geography[edit]

Gulph Mills is located in the southeastern part of Pennsylvania, in the eastern part of Upper Merion Township. It is bordered by the communities of King of Prussia to the north and Bridgeport to the east. The community is served by the SEPTA Norristown High Speed Line at the Gulph Mills station.

Economy[edit]

The economy of Gulph Mills is diverse, with a mix of local businesses and larger corporations. The community is home to several office parks, which house companies in industries such as technology, healthcare, and finance.

Education[edit]

Gulph Mills is served by the Upper Merion Area School District. Students attend Gulph Elementary School, Upper Merion Area Middle School, and Upper Merion Area High School. The community is also in close proximity to several higher education institutions, including Villanova University and Bryn Mawr College.

Several notable individuals have ties to Gulph Mills, including John Dickinson, a Founding Father of the United States who lived in the community.
