Franconia, Pennsylvania
Franconia, Pennsylvania is a township located in Montgomery County, in the United States. It is part of the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area, and is known for its rich history and diverse community.
History[edit]
Franconia was first settled by Mennonites from the Palatinate region of Germany in the early 18th century. The township was officially established in 1731, and was named after the region of Franconia in Germany, from where many of the settlers originated.
Geography[edit]
Franconia is located in the northeastern part of Montgomery County. It is bordered by Souderton to the north, Telford to the east, and Harleysville to the south. The township is characterized by its rolling hills and rural landscape, with a mix of farmland, residential areas, and commercial zones.
Demographics[edit]
As of the 2010 Census, Franconia had a population of approximately 13,064. The township has a diverse population, with a mix of different ethnicities and cultures. The majority of residents are of European descent, with a significant number of residents of Asian and Hispanic origin.
Economy[edit]
Franconia has a mixed economy, with a strong presence of manufacturing, retail, and service industries. The township is home to several large employers, including Almac Group, a global contract research organization, and Univest Financial, a regional bank headquartered in Souderton.
Education[edit]
Education in Franconia is provided by the Souderton Area School District, which operates several elementary schools, a middle school, and Souderton Area High School within the township.
