Canton, Massachusetts

Canton, Massachusetts is a town in Norfolk County, in the United States. It was first settled in 1630 and officially incorporated in 1797. Canton is part of the Greater Boston area, located approximately 15 miles south of downtown Boston.

History

Canton was historically a part of Stoughton. The area was first settled in 1630, and later incorporated as a separate town in 1797. The town was named after the city of Canton, China, as a tribute to the town's early role in the China Trade.

Geography

Canton is located in eastern Massachusetts, bordered by Norwood to the north, Sharon to the south, Stoughton and Randolph to the west, and Milton and Quincy to the east. The town is known for its hilly terrain and numerous bodies of water, including the Neponset River and Reservoir Pond.
