Quảng Nam
Quảng Nam is a province in the South Central Coast region of Vietnam. It is bordered by Thừa Thiên-Huế to the north, the nation of Laos to the west, Kon Tum Province to the southwest, Quảng Ngãi Province to the southeast, the South China Sea to the east, and the city of Da Nang to the northeast.
History[edit]
Quảng Nam was once the political and near-geographical center of Champa, an Indian-influenced civilization that controlled what is now southern and central Vietnam from approximately the 7th century through to 1832.
Geography[edit]
Quảng Nam is generally flat along the coast, with low hills in the west and a mixture of mountains and forests in the west and southwest. The province's highest point, Ngọc Linh Mountain, is located in the west of the province near the border with Laos.
Economy[edit]
The province's economy is primarily agricultural, with rice, maize, sweet potato, peanut, sesame, and cotton among the main crops. Quảng Nam is also one of Vietnam's most important areas for forestry and fishing.
Culture[edit]
Quảng Nam is known for its distinctive culture, with a mix of Vietnamese, Cham, and Hoi An influences. The province is home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the ancient town of Hội An and the Mỹ Sơn temple complex, a center of the ancient Champa civilization.
