CRC Press is an international publishing group that specializes in producing technical books for academics and professionals. It was established in 1903 as the Chemical Rubber Company (CRC), which initially sold laboratory equipment and rubber aprons. Over time, it evolved into a leading global publisher of scientific, technical, and medical content.

History

CRC Press was founded in 1903 by brothers Arthur, Leo and Emanuel Friedman in Cleveland, Ohio. The company initially sold rubber laboratory aprons and expanded into publishing in 1913 with the release of the Rubber Handbook. This publication was the precursor to the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, which continues to be published annually.

In 1973, CRC Press was sold to the Times Mirror Company. In 2003, it became part of Taylor & Francis, which in turn is part of the UK publisher, Informa plc.

Publications

CRC Press is known for its distinguished authors and comprehensive coverage of technical and scientific topics. Its publications include books, journals, and electronic products in disciplines such as chemistry, biology, engineering, information technology, food science, and statistics.

One of its most well-known publications is the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, a mainstay in the realm of scientific literature. This reference book provides a single-source of physical and chemical property data for scientists around the world.

Reputation

CRC Press has a reputation for high-quality publications in the scientific, technical, and medical fields. Its books are used by professionals and academics worldwide, and many of its titles are considered definitive works in their respective fields.
