Chataamari is a type of Nepalese cuisine that originated from the Newar community in Nepal. It is often referred to as 'Newari Pizza' due to its resemblance to the Italian dish, although its ingredients and preparation method are distinctly Nepalese.

History

Chataamari dates back to ancient times when it was a popular dish among the Newar community in Nepal. The Newars are known for their rich and diverse culinary traditions, and Chataamari is one of their most celebrated dishes.

Ingredients

The main ingredients of Chataamari include rice flour, water, and a variety of toppings. The most common toppings are minced meat, egg, and chopped vegetables, although variations exist depending on personal preference and regional differences.

Preparation

To prepare Chataamari, a batter is made from rice flour and water. This batter is then spread thinly on a hot pan and cooked until it becomes crispy. The toppings are added and cooked until they are well done. Unlike pizza, Chataamari is not typically baked, but rather cooked on a stovetop.

Cultural Significance

Chataamari is not just a food item, but also a significant part of Newar culture. It is often prepared during festivals and special occasions. It is also a popular street food in Nepal, particularly in the Kathmandu Valley.
