Biodiesel by region refers to the production, distribution, and usage of biodiesel in various regions around the world. Biodiesel, a renewable energy source, is an alternative to fossil fuels and is produced from vegetable oils, animal fats, or recycled restaurant greases.

North America

In North America, the United States is the leading producer of biodiesel. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 and the Renewable Fuel Standard program have significantly contributed to the growth of the biodiesel industry in the country.

Europe

Europe is a major player in the global biodiesel market, with Germany and France being the top producers. The European Union's Renewable Energy Directive has set a target for member states to fulfill at least 10% of their total transport fuel consumption with renewable energy by 2020.

Asia

In Asia, countries like Malaysia and Indonesia are leading in biodiesel production due to their large palm oil industries. The National Biofuel Policy in Malaysia and the Biofuel Law in Indonesia are significant policies promoting biodiesel production and usage in these countries.

South America

South America has seen a surge in biodiesel production, particularly in Brazil and Argentina, due to their vast soybean fields. The Brazilian National Program for the Production and Use of Biodiesel and the Argentinian Biofuels Law are key policies driving the biodiesel industry in these countries.

Africa

In Africa, biodiesel production is still in its infancy, but countries like South Africa and Mozambique have started exploring the potential of biodiesel from jatropha and other indigenous plants.

Oceania

In Oceania, Australia and New Zealand have shown interest in biodiesel production, primarily from used cooking oil and tallow. The Australian Biofuels Act and the New Zealand Biofuels Bill are significant policies promoting the biodiesel industry in these countries.
