O-1238 is a synthetic compound of the cannabinoid family. It is a selective agonist for the peripheral cannabinoid receptor CB2, with much lower affinity for the central CB1 receptor.

Chemistry

O-1238 is a synthetic compound of the cannabinoid family. It is a selective agonist for the peripheral cannabinoid receptor CB2, with much lower affinity for the central CB1 receptor. The chemical structure of O-1238 is similar to that of other cannabinoids, but it has a unique pharmacological profile.

Pharmacology

O-1238 acts as a selective agonist for the peripheral cannabinoid receptor CB2. This means it binds to this receptor and activates it, leading to a biological response. The CB2 receptor is primarily found in the immune system, and its activation is associated with immune system modulation and anti-inflammatory effects.

O-1238 has much lower affinity for the central CB1 receptor, which is primarily found in the brain and is responsible for the psychoactive effects of cannabinoids. This means that O-1238 is unlikely to produce the "high" associated with cannabis use.

Therapeutic Potential

Due to its selective action on the CB2 receptor, O-1238 has potential therapeutic applications in conditions where modulation of the immune system and reduction of inflammation are beneficial. This includes conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and inflammatory bowel disease. However, further research is needed to fully understand the potential benefits and risks of O-1238 in these conditions.
