Prosperity is a state of flourishing, thriving, good fortune or successful social status. Prosperity often encompasses wealth but also includes other factors which can be independent of wealth to varying degrees, such as happiness and health.

Definition

Prosperity is the state of being successful or thriving; especially economic well-being. It is often associated with wealth, but it also includes other factors such as happiness and health. Prosperity can be seen as the opposite of poverty.

Economic prosperity

Economic prosperity is often associated with a high standard of living. The Economic theory suggests that prosperity can be attained through economic growth. The more the economy grows, the more wealth and income is available to meet people's wants and needs.

Measures of prosperity

There are several measures of prosperity, including Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Gross National Product (GNP), and Human Development Index (HDI). These measures are used to compare the prosperity of different countries or regions.

Prosperity and happiness

There is a strong correlation between prosperity and happiness. Studies have shown that people in prosperous countries tend to be happier than those in poor countries. However, there is also evidence that once a certain level of economic prosperity is reached, further increases in wealth and income do not lead to greater happiness.

Prosperity and health

Prosperity also has a positive impact on health. People in prosperous countries tend to live longer and have better health outcomes than those in poor countries. This is due to a variety of factors, including better access to healthcare, healthier diets, and less exposure to environmental hazards.
