MKNAOMI is a Top Secret biological warfare program initiated by the United States government. The program was launched by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in conjunction with the United States Army Biological Warfare Laboratories (USBWL). The main objective of the program was to develop, test, and stockpile biological agents and delivery systems for use against humans and animals.

History

The MKNAOMI program was initiated in the early 1950s and was officially sanctioned in 1952. The program was a successor to the Project Bluebird and Project Artichoke and was a part of the larger MKULTRA project. The program was coordinated by the CIA's Office of Scientific Intelligence.

The program was named after the biblical figure Naomi, who is known for her wisdom and nurturing nature. The "MK" in the program's name stands for the technical services division within the CIA that was responsible for the program.

Objectives

The main objective of the MKNAOMI program was to develop, test, and stockpile biological and chemical weapons for use in warfare and covert operations. The program focused on the development of lethal and non-lethal biological agents, including diseases and toxins. The program also aimed to develop delivery systems for these agents, such as aerosols, microencapsulated materials, and other sophisticated methods.

Controversies

The MKNAOMI program has been the subject of numerous controversies and criticisms. The program was conducted in secret, without the knowledge or consent of the American public. The program also involved the use of human subjects in its experiments, often without their knowledge or consent. This has led to numerous ethical and legal questions about the program.

Legacy

The MKNAOMI program was officially discontinued in 1973, following the revelation of the program's existence by the Church Committee. However, the legacy of the program continues to be a subject of debate and controversy. The program has been cited as an example of the ethical and legal issues associated with the use of biological and chemical weapons in warfare and covert operations.
