Pest control

Pest control refers to the regulation or management of a species defined as a pest, a member of the animal kingdom that impacts adversely on human activities. The human response depends on the importance of the damage done and will range from tolerance, through deterrence and management, to attempts to completely eradicate the pest. Pest control measures may be performed as part of an integrated pest management strategy.

Types of pest control

Pest control can be categorized into two main types: biological pest control and chemical pest control.

Biological pest control

Biological pest control is a method of controlling pests such as insects and mites by using other organisms. It relies on predation, parasitism, herbivory, or other natural mechanisms, but typically also involves an active human management role.

Chemical pest control

Chemical pest control involves the use of certain chemicals to control pests. Pesticides are often used in this method. However, some pesticides can be harmful to humans and the environment, so their use is regulated in many countries.

Methods of pest control

There are several methods of pest control, including:

• Prevention: This involves preventing pests from entering a property or area in the first place. This can be achieved through proper sanitation and home maintenance.
• Extermination: This involves killing the pests. This can be achieved through various methods such as trapping, poisoning, or fumigation.
• Repellents: These are substances that deter pests from entering an area.
• Traps: These are used to catch pests. Traps are commonly used for rodents such as rats and mice.
