Cherry Hill
Cherry Hill is a township in Camden County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township had a population of 71,045, reflecting an increase of 1,080 (+1.5%) from the 69,965 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 617 (+0.9%) from the 69,348 counted in the 1990 Census. As of 2010, the township was the state's 15th most populous municipality and the second-largest in Camden County (behind the city of Camden), after having been the state's 13th most populous municipality in the 2000 Census.
History
Cherry Hill was originally settled by the Lenape people. The township was incorporated on February 25, 1844, as Delaware Township from portions of the now-defunct Newton Township. The township's name was changed to Cherry Hill on November 7, 1961, in response to a referendum passed that year.
Geography
Cherry Hill is located approximately 8 miles southeast of Philadelphia, making it a popular suburb for commuters. The township is characterized by its distinct neighborhoods, each with its own unique personality and charm.
Economy
Cherry Hill is home to many businesses and corporations, including Subaru of America, TD Bank, and Melitta USA. The Cherry Hill Mall, one of the first enclosed malls in the Eastern United States, is a major shopping destination for the region.
Education
The Cherry Hill Public Schools district serves students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. The district has a total of 19 schools: twelve elementary schools, three middle schools, two traditional high schools, and two alternative high schools.
Transportation
Cherry Hill is served by several major roadways, including Interstate 295, Route 70, and Route 38. The township also has a station on the PATCO Speedline, providing easy access to Philadelphia and other destinations.
Notable people
Many notable people have called Cherry Hill home, including Ali Larter, an actress known for her roles in the Final Destination series and the TV show Heroes, and Bobby Ryan, a professional ice hockey player for the Ottawa Senators.
