Leo Varadkar TD

Leo Varadkar (born 18 January 1979) is an Irish politician and physician who has served as Taoiseach of Ireland and leader of the Fine Gael party. He has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin West constituency since 2007.

Early Life and Education

Leo Varadkar was born in Dublin, Ireland, to an Indian father and an Irish mother. He attended The King's Hospital school and later studied medicine at Trinity College Dublin.

Medical Career

After qualifying as a doctor, Varadkar worked as a junior doctor in St. James's Hospital and Connolly Hospital. He is a qualified general practitioner.

Political Career

Varadkar joined Fine Gael in his youth and was elected to the Dáil Éireann in 2007. He has held several ministerial positions, including Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Minister for Health, and Minister for Social Protection.

Taoiseach

In June 2017, Varadkar was elected leader of Fine Gael and subsequently appointed as Taoiseach, becoming the first openly gay Taoiseach and the youngest person to hold the office.

Personal Life

Varadkar is openly gay and has been in a relationship with his partner, Matthew Barrett, who is also a doctor.
