Tropical Smoothie Cafe was founded in 1997 by Eric Jenrich, Delora Jenrich, and David Walker in Destin, Florida. The first franchise opened in 1998 in Tallahassee, Florida. By 1999, the company had expanded to 24 locations. In 2006, Tropical Smoothie Cafe introduced a new menu that included food items such as sandwiches and wraps, in addition to smoothies.
In 2017, the company celebrated its 20th anniversary and announced plans to expand to 1,500 locations by 2020. The brand has continued to grow, focusing on providing healthier food options and expanding its menu to include more diverse offerings.
