Thomas Taggart (November 17, 1856 – March 6, 1929) was an Irish-American politician who served as the mayor of Indianapolis and was a notable figure in the Democratic Party both at the state and national levels. Taggart was influential in the development of Indiana's political landscape in the early 20th century and also played a significant role in the national Democratic politics.

Early Life

Born in County Monaghan, Ireland, Taggart immigrated to the United States with his family at a young age. They settled in Indiana, where he later began his career in the hospitality industry before venturing into politics.

Political Career

Taggart's political career began in local Indianapolis politics, where he first served as city auditor before being elected mayor in 1895.
