Newham University Hospital

Newham University Hospital is a district general hospital situated in the Plaistow, Newham, London, England. It is managed by Barts Health NHS Trust, one of the largest National Health Service trusts in the United Kingdom.

History

Newham University Hospital was officially opened in 1983, although some services had been transferred from other hospitals earlier. The hospital was built to replace several older local hospitals including East Ham Memorial Hospital and St. Andrew's Hospital.

Services

The hospital provides a full range of general inpatient services, including cardiology, respiratory medicine, cancer treatments, orthopaedics, paediatrics, and emergency medicine. It also offers a range of outpatient services and is home to a 24-hour Accident and Emergency department.

Facilities

Newham University Hospital has over 500 beds and a range of specialist services. The hospital has a modern Maternity unit with birthing pools and a home-from-home suite. The hospital also has a Radiology department with MRI and CT scanning facilities.

Performance

In 2013, the hospital was taken over by Barts Health NHS Trust following concerns about the quality of care. Since then, the hospital has made significant improvements and in 2017, it was rated 'Good' by the Care Quality Commission.
