Trestolone

Chemical structure of Trestolone

Trestolone, also known as 7_-methyl-19-nortestosterone (MENT), is a synthetic androgen and anabolic steroid (AAS) that was never marketed. It is a potent androgen receptor agonist and is used in scientific research.

Pharmacology

Mechanism of Action

Trestolone acts as a potent agonist of the androgen receptor (AR), the biological target of androgens like testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It is a 19-nortestosterone derivative, similar to nandrolone, but with a 7_-methyl group that increases its potency.

Effects

Trestolone has both androgenic and anabolic effects, which means it can promote the development of male characteristics and increase muscle mass. It is significantly more potent than testosterone in its effects.

Administration

Trestolone can be administered via various routes, including intramuscular injection and transdermal application. It is not orally active due to rapid metabolism in the liver.

Research and Development

Trestolone was developed in the 1960s and has been studied for potential use in male contraception and hormone replacement therapy. Its ability to suppress spermatogenesis while maintaining androgenic effects makes it a candidate for male birth control.

Safety and Side Effects

As with other anabolic steroids, trestolone can cause side effects such as acne, hair loss, and prostate enlargement. It may also affect cholesterol levels and liver function.
