Scott Forstall
Scott Forstall is an American software engineer, best known for leading the original software development team for the iPhone and iPad at Apple Inc..
Early life and education
Forstall was born in 1969 in Washington D.C. He received his Bachelor's degree in Symbolic Systems and his Master's degree in Computer Science from Stanford University.
Career
NeXT
Forstall began his career at NeXT, a computer platform development company founded by Steve Jobs after he left Apple in 1985. At NeXT, Forstall worked on the development of the NeXTSTEP operating system.
Apple Inc.
When Apple purchased NeXT in 1997, Forstall became a part of the Apple team. He was instrumental in the development of Mac OS X, contributing to its Aqua interface. He was promoted to Senior Vice President in January 2003.
Forstall's most significant contribution at Apple was leading the original software development team for the iPhone. He was responsible for the creation of the iOS operating system, which powers all of Apple's mobile devices. He also led the team that developed the Safari web browser and the App Store.
Forstall left Apple in 2012 and has since kept a low profile in the tech industry.
Personal life
Forstall is married and has two children. He is known for his love of Broadway and has co-produced several Broadway shows, including "Fun Home" and "Eclipsed".
