Early Life and Education[edit]

Athanasios Kafkalides was born in 1919 in Thessaloniki, Greece. He completed his medical studies at the University of Athens in 1942. After graduation, he specialized in neurology and psychiatry, and furthered his studies in these fields in Paris and London.

Career[edit]

Kafkalides began his career as a neurologist and psychiatrist in Thessaloniki. He later moved to Athens, where he established the Kafkalidean Mental Health Research Foundation in 1973. He conducted extensive research on the effects of ketamine, a powerful psychedelic drug, on the human mind. His work has significantly contributed to our understanding of the human psyche and the potential therapeutic uses of psychedelic drugs.
