Jamshedpur is a city located in the East Singhbhum district of the Indian state of Jharkhand. It is the largest and most populous city in Jharkhand and is known as the "Steel City" due to the presence of the Tata Steel plant, one of the largest steel manufacturing companies in India.
History[edit]
Jamshedpur was founded by Jamsetji Tata, the founder of the Tata Group, in 1919. The city was named in his honor and was one of the first planned industrial cities in India. The establishment of the Tata Steel plant marked the beginning of industrialization in the region.
Geography[edit]
Jamshedpur is situated at the confluence of the Subarnarekha River and the Kharkai River. The city is surrounded by the Dalma Hills, which provide a scenic backdrop and a moderate climate.
Economy[edit]
The economy of Jamshedpur is primarily driven by the steel industry, with Tata Steel being the major employer.
