Call the Midwife is a British television series set in the late 1950s and 1960s, based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth. The series follows a group of nurse midwives working in the East End of London.
Plot[edit]
The series depicts the lives of a group of nurse midwives attached to an Anglican religious order in the East End of London. The storylines explore the social issues of the time, including poverty, post-war immigration, and the National Health Service (NHS).
Characters[edit]
- Jenny Lee - A young midwife and the main character in the early series.
- Sister Julienne - The head of the order of nuns.
- Sister Monica Joan - An elderly nun with a love for cake and mischief.

The series is produced by Neal Street Productions, a company founded by Sam Mendes, Pippa Harris, and Carole Winter. It is filmed at Longcross Studios in Surrey, with exterior scenes shot in the East End of London.
Reception[edit]
Call the Midwife has been praised for its historical accuracy and its portrayal of social issues. It has won numerous awards, including the National Television Award for Best Drama.
