David is a common male name of biblical origin, and is also a surname.
Etymology
The name David is derived from the Hebrew name Dawid, which was derived from the Hebrew word dwd meaning "beloved" or "uncle". The name was used in the Bible for the second king of the Kingdom of Israel and Judah, King David.

In the Bible, David was the second king of the United Kingdom of Israel and Judah, and an ancestor of Jesus. His life is conventionally dated to c. 1040–970 BC, his reign over Judah c. 1010–1002 BC, and his reign over the United Kingdom c. 1002–970 BC.
