David is a common male name of biblical origin, and is also a surname.
Etymology
The name David is derived from the Hebrew name Dawid, which was derived from the Hebrew word dwd meaning "beloved" or "uncle". The name was used in the Bible for the second king of the Kingdom of Israel and Judah, King David.
