Briarcliff Manor Fire Department is a volunteer fire department located in Briarcliff Manor, a village in Westchester County, New York. The department is responsible for providing fire protection, rescue services, and emergency medical services to the village and its surrounding areas.
History[edit]
The Briarcliff Manor Fire Department was established in 1901, making it one of the oldest volunteer fire departments in Westchester County. The department was initially equipped with a single horse-drawn fire engine, which was housed in a small wooden building on Pleasantville Road.
Organization[edit]
The department is composed of two companies: the Briarcliff Manor Fire Company and the Scarborough Engine Company. Each company is staffed by a team of dedicated volunteers who undergo rigorous training in firefighting, emergency medical response, and rescue operations. The department is overseen by a Fire Chief, who is elected by the members of the department.
Operations[edit]
The Briarcliff Manor Fire Department operates out of two fire stations, which are strategically located to provide optimal coverage of the village and its surrounding areas. The department's fleet includes several fire engines, a ladder truck, and an ambulance for emergency medical services.
Community Involvement[edit]
In addition to its primary role of providing fire protection and emergency services, the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department is also actively involved in the community. The department participates in various community events, conducts fire safety education programs, and offers tours of the fire stations to local schools and community groups.
