2020 Summer Olympics[edit]
The 2020 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXII Olympiad, were an international multi-sport event held in Tokyo, Japan. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the postponement, the event retained the "Tokyo 2020" branding.
Host City[edit]

Tokyo was selected as the host city during the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 7 September 2013. This marked the second time Tokyo hosted the Summer Olympics, the first being in 1964.
Venues[edit]

The games were held across 42 venues in Tokyo and surrounding areas. The New National Stadium served as the main stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies.
Events[edit]
The 2020 Summer Olympics featured 339 events in 33 sports, including new additions such as skateboarding, sport climbing, surfing, and karate.
Highlights[edit]

The games were notable for the introduction of mixed-gender events in several sports, as well as the debut of new sports. The event was also marked by strict health protocols due to the ongoing pandemic.
Security[edit]

Security was a major concern, with extensive measures implemented to ensure the safety of athletes and attendees. This included the deployment of police and security personnel across all venues.
Medals[edit]

The medals for the 2020 Summer Olympics were made from recycled electronics, a first in Olympic history. The design featured the Olympic rings and the Greek goddess Nike.
Opening Ceremony[edit]

The opening ceremony was held on 23 July 2021 at the New National Stadium. It featured a display of drones forming the shape of the Earth, symbolizing unity and peace.
