The 2020 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXII Olympiad, were an international multi-sport event held in Tokyo, Japan. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the postponement, the event retained the "Tokyo 2020" branding.

Host City[edit]

Tokyo was selected as the host city during the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 7 September 2013. This marked the second time Tokyo hosted the Summer Olympics, the first being in 1964.

Venues[edit]

The games were held across 42 venues in Tokyo and surrounding areas. The New National Stadium served as the main stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies.

Events[edit]

The 2020 Summer Olympics featured 339 events in 33 sports, including new additions such as skateboarding, sport climbing, surfing, and karate.
