Slug and Lettuce[edit]

The Slug and Lettuce is a chain of bars that originated in the United Kingdom. The first bar was opened in Islington, London in 1984. The chain is now part of the Stonegate Pub Company, which owns over 690 pubs and bars across the UK.

History[edit]

The Slug and Lettuce was founded by Hugh Corbett, who opened the first bar in Islington in 1984. The chain was named after the common garden pests, as a joke by Corbett. The chain quickly expanded throughout London and then across the UK.

In 2000, the Slug and Lettuce was acquired by the SFI Group, which also owned the Litten Tree pub chain. In 2005, the SFI Group went into administration and the Slug and Lettuce was sold to the Town and City Pub Company.

In 2011, the Town and City Pub Company was acquired by the Stonegate Pub Company, which is the current owner of the Slug and Lettuce chain.

Concept[edit]

The Slug and Lettuce bars are designed to attract a more upmarket clientele than a traditional pub. The bars are known for their stylish and contemporary interiors, extensive cocktail menus, and food offerings that range from traditional pub fare to more modern dishes.

The chain is also known for its regular promotions, such as 2-for-1 cocktails and discount food days.

Locations[edit]

There are over 70 Slug and Lettuce bars across the UK, including locations in London, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, and Edinburgh. Each bar is individually styled to suit its location.
