Penn Station (restaurant)

Penn Station East Coast Subs is an American restaurant chain specializing in submarine sandwiches, also known as "subs". The chain was founded in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1985 by Jeff Osterfeld, who remains the company's CEO. Penn Station is named after Pennsylvania Station in New York City, reflecting the chain's East Coast-inspired menu.

History

Jeff Osterfeld opened the first Penn Station restaurant in 1985, following the success of his first venture, "Jeffrey's Delicatessen", which he launched while studying at Miami University. The deli was located in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood of Cincinnati, and it was here that Osterfeld first developed the cheesesteak sandwich that would become a staple of the Penn Station menu.

Menu

Penn Station's menu primarily consists of submarine sandwiches, fresh-cut fries, and lemonade. The sandwiches are prepared to order and are available in five sizes. The chain is particularly known for its Philadelphia cheesesteak sandwich, a popular item since the restaurant's early days. Other menu items include chicken teriyaki, club, and Italian sandwiches, among others.

Locations

As of 2021, Penn Station operates over 300 locations in 15 states. The chain's presence is strongest in the Midwest and South, with a significant number of restaurants in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. Penn Station continues to expand, with plans for new locations across the United States.
