Clynelish distillery

Clynelish Distillery is a Scottish distillery located in the Highlands region, specifically in the town of Brora. It is known for producing single malt Scotch whisky with a distinctive maritime and briny character.

History

The Clynelish Distillery was established in 1819 by the Marquess of Stafford, later known as the Duke of Sutherland. The original distillery, now known as the Brora distillery, was closed in 1968 when a new distillery was built next to it. The new distillery assumed the Clynelish name while the original was later reopened in 1969 under the name Brora. The Brora distillery was eventually closed in 1983.

Production

Clynelish Distillery uses traditional methods in its whisky production. The distillery sources its water from the Clynemilton burn, which runs over seams of gold in the rock. The distillery has a capacity of producing over 4.8 million litres of whisky per year. The whisky is matured in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks, which contribute to its unique flavor profile.

Products

Clynelish Distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies, including the Clynelish 14 Year Old, which is part of Diageo's Classic Malts range. Other notable expressions include the Clynelish Select Reserve and the Clynelish Distillers Edition.

Clynelish Distillery has been featured in several whisky-related publications and television shows. It is also a popular destination on the Scottish whisky distilleries tour.
