Computing is the process of using computer technology to complete a task. Computing may involve computer hardware and software, but must involve some form of a computer system. It is also the study and the science of the theoretical foundations of information and computation and their implementation and application in computer systems.

History[edit]

The history of computing is longer than the history of computing hardware and modern computing technology and includes the history of methods intended for pen and paper or for chalk and slate, with or without the aid of tables. The timeline of computing presents key events in the history of computing.

Types of Computing[edit]

There are various types of computing that range from to manipulating raw data for large-scale operations to personal computing.

Personal Computing[edit]

Personal computing is a common type of computing. It is a type of computing in which a personal computer is used by one person at a time.

Distributed Computing[edit]

Distributed computing is a field of computer science that studies distributed systems. A distributed system is a system whose components are located on different networked computers, which communicate and coordinate their actions by passing messages to one another.

Cloud Computing[edit]

Cloud computing is the on-demand availability of computer system resources, especially data storage and computing power, without direct active management by the user.
