Epi Info is a public domain, software package designed for the global public health community of practitioners and researchers. It provides for easy data entry form and database construction, a customized data entry experience, and data analyses with epidemiologic statistics, maps, and graphs for public health professionals who may lack an information technology background. Epi Info is available for Windows, Mobile, Web & Cloud. This software is used for outbreak investigations; for developing small to mid-sized disease surveillance systems; as analysis, visualization, and reporting (AVR) components of larger systems; and in the continuing education in the science of epidemiology and public health analytic methods at schools of public health around the world.

History[edit]

Epi Info has been in existence for over 20 years and is currently available for Microsoft Windows. The program allows for electronic survey creation, data entry, and analysis. Within the software, the user can create a questionnaire, customize the data entry process, and enter and analyze data. Epidemiologists can calculate case findings, rates and ratios, and perform stratified analysis, logistic regression, survival analysis, and much more.

Features[edit]

Epi Info includes a number of features that allow users to rapidly develop questionnaires, customize data entry, analyze data in real time, and create custom reports. These features include:

  • Data Management: Epi Info uses a relational database structure for data management. This allows for complex data structures and relationships to be easily managed and queried.
  • Data Analysis: Epi Info provides a wide range of statistical tools for data analysis. These include descriptive statistics, cross tabulations, stratified analysis, and regression.
  • Data Visualization: Epi Info includes tools for creating maps, graphs, and charts to visualize data. This can be particularly useful in understanding trends and patterns in public health data.
  • Data Entry: Epi Info allows for customized data entry forms. This can help to ensure data quality and consistency.

Usage[edit]

Epi Info is used in a variety of settings including research, local and national public health departments, and in clinical trials. It is particularly useful in resource-limited settings where there may not be access to more expensive statistical software.
