USA Drug

USA Drug was a chain of over 150 pharmacies and drugstores located primarily in the southern United States. The company was founded in 1984 and was headquartered in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

History

USA Drug was established by Stephen L. LaFrance in 1984. The company expanded rapidly through the acquisition of smaller pharmacy chains and independent stores. By the early 2000s, USA Drug had become one of the largest regional pharmacy chains in the United States.

In 2012, USA Drug was acquired by Walgreens, a major national pharmacy chain. The acquisition included all of USA Drug's stores, which were subsequently rebranded under the Walgreens name.

Operations

USA Drug operated primarily in the southern United States, with a significant presence in Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Missouri. The stores offered a wide range of products, including prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, health and beauty products, and general merchandise.

The company was known for its competitive pricing and customer service, which helped it maintain a loyal customer base in the regions it served.

Acquisition by Walgreens

In July 2012, Walgreens announced its intention to purchase USA Drug for approximately $438 million. The acquisition was completed later that year, and the transition of USA Drug stores to the Walgreens brand began shortly thereafter. This acquisition allowed Walgreens to expand its presence in the southern United States and integrate USA Drug's operations into its own.
