Jean-Pierre Willem (born 1938) is a French doctor, surgeon, and anthropologist. He is the founder of the NGO Médecins aux pieds nus (Barefoot Doctors) and the Biodecoding Institute.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Jean-Pierre Willem was born in 1938 in France. He studied medicine at the University of Paris, where he specialized in surgery and anthropology.

Career[edit]

After his studies, Willem worked as a surgeon in various countries, including Algeria, Vietnam, and Tibet. His experiences in these countries led him to develop an interest in alternative medicine and traditional medicine practices.

In 1980, he founded the NGO Médecins aux pieds nus (Barefoot Doctors), an organization that aims to provide medical care to underserved populations. The organization is based on the principles of Chinese medicine, where doctors would travel to rural areas to provide care.

In 1997, Willem founded the Biodecoding Institute. The institute focuses on the study and practice of biodecoding, a form of alternative medicine that aims to understand and treat the emotional and psychological roots of physical illness.

Contributions to Medicine[edit]

Willem's work in alternative and traditional medicine has contributed to the understanding and acceptance of these practices in Western medicine. His work with the Barefoot Doctors has provided medical care to thousands of people who would otherwise not have access to it.

Personal Life[edit]

Willem is married and has two children. He continues to work and teach in the field of biodecoding and alternative medicine.
