Infectious Diseases Institute

Overview

The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is a center of excellence in research, training, and treatment of infectious diseases. It is located in Kampala, Uganda, and is affiliated with Makerere University. The institute focuses on the prevention, management, and treatment of infectious diseases, particularly HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.

History

The Infectious Diseases Institute was established in 2002 as a collaborative effort between Makerere University and several international partners. The goal was to build capacity in Africa for the management of infectious diseases through training, research, and clinical services.

Mission and Objectives

The mission of the Infectious Diseases Institute is to strengthen health systems in Africa through research, training, and provision of high-quality clinical services. The objectives include:
