Frenuloplasty

Frenuloplasty is a surgical procedure performed to correct a condition known as frenulum breve, where the frenulum of the penis or the frenulum of the tongue is too short and restricts movement. This condition can cause discomfort, pain, and problems with sexual or oral functions.

Procedure

Frenuloplasty involves the surgical alteration of the frenulum. The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia. The surgeon makes a small incision in the frenulum, which is then stitched in a manner that lengthens it and allows for greater flexibility. The procedure typically takes about 15-30 minutes.

Indications

Frenuloplasty may be indicated in cases where the short frenulum is causing problems such as pain during sexual intercourse or difficulty in speech (in case of tongue tie). It may also be recommended in cases where the frenulum tears frequently.

Risks and Complications

As with any surgical procedure, frenuloplasty carries some risks. These may include infection, bleeding, and scarring. There may also be changes in sensation, although this is rare.

Recovery

Recovery from frenuloplasty is usually quick. Most individuals can return to normal activities within a few days. However, sexual activities may need to be avoided for up to six weeks to allow for complete healing.
