Villanova University is a private university located in Villanova, Pennsylvania, a suburb northwest of Philadelphia. Founded in 1842 by the Order of Saint Augustine, it is the oldest Catholic university in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
History
Villanova University traces its roots to the old Saint Augustine's Church in Philadelphia, which was founded in 1796. The university itself was established in 1842 and named after Saint Thomas of Villanova, a Spanish friar and bishop.
