The Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. (WMF) is an American non-profit organization headquartered in San Francisco, California. The foundation was established by Jimmy Wales on June 20, 2003, to support the operations of Wikipedia and its sister projects.
History
The Wikimedia Foundation was created to manage the growing needs of Wikipedia, which was launched in January 2001.
