Zoom is a video conferencing software developed by Zoom Video Communications. It provides a remote conferencing service that combines video conferencing, online meetings, chat, and mobile collaboration.

History

Zoom was founded in 2011 by Eric Yuan, a lead engineer from WebEx and a vice president at Cisco Systems. The service started in January 2013 and by May 2013, it claimed one million participants. During its first year of release, Zoom established partnerships with Baidu, Box, and Zendesk and integrated with Dropbox and Google Drive.

Features

Zoom provides video conferencing, online meetings, chat, and mobile collaboration. Some of its features include meeting recordings, screen sharing, and the ability to schedule meetings. It also offers a feature called "Zoom Rooms" for businesses to set up dedicated spaces for video conferencing.

Security and privacy

Zoom has faced criticism for its security and privacy practices. In 2020, it was reported that the software had vulnerabilities that could allow hackers to take over users' computers. In response, Zoom implemented a number of security updates and changes.

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Zoom saw a significant increase in usage as many businesses, schools, and social events moved online. This led to increased scrutiny of the platform's security and privacy practices.
