ABCC13 is a gene that is part of the ATP-binding cassette transporter family. This family of genes is known for their role in transporting various molecules across the cell membrane. ABCC13, however, is considered a pseudogene, meaning it is a gene that has lost its protein-coding ability or is otherwise no longer functional.

Function

The ABCC13 gene is part of the MRP subfamily, which is involved in multi-drug resistance. This gene is not considered to be functional due to multiple frameshift mutations and stop codons within the coding region. The gene is located on the long arm of chromosome 21 at position 21.1.

Clinical Significance

While the ABCC13 gene is generally considered non-functional, it is still of interest to medical researchers. Some studies have suggested that the gene may play a role in certain genetic disorders, although more research is needed to confirm these findings.
