Naugles was an American fast-food restaurant chain that specialized in Mexican food. The chain was founded by Dick Naugle in Riverside, California in 1970. The first Naugles restaurant was located at Fourteenth and Brockton in Riverside.
History
Dick Naugle, who was a franchisee of Del Taco, founded Naugles on the idea that serving quality food at a good price would attract customers. He used his experience in the fast-food industry to create a menu that featured items like tacos, burritos, and nachos.
In 1986, Naugles merged with Del Taco, which was then owned by Aniwar Soliman. The merger resulted in the creation of Naugles/Del Taco Inc., which later became known as Del Taco Inc.. After the merger, many Naugles locations were converted into Del Taco restaurants.
In 2015, a company called Naugles Corporate successfully petitioned to revive the Naugles trademark, arguing that Del Taco had abandoned it. As a result, Naugles restaurants have been reopened in Fountain Valley, California and other locations.
Menu
Naugles' menu was known for its variety and quality. It included items like the Combo Cup, which was a cup filled with beans, cheese, and a choice of meat. Other popular items were the Naugleburger, a hamburger with a Mexican twist, and the Bun Taco, a taco served on a hamburger bun instead of a tortilla.
Legacy
Naugles has left a lasting impact on the fast-food industry. Its focus on quality and variety set it apart from other fast-food chains and influenced the menus of many restaurants that followed. Today, the revived Naugles chain continues to serve the same quality food that made the original chain popular.
