Zanjan is a city in northwestern Iran and the capital of Zanjan Province. It is known for its beautiful handcrafts such as knives, traditional sandals, called charoogh, and malileh, a handcraft made with silver wires. Zanjan is also known for its delicious local food, especially its Zanjan's traditional bread called nân keshmeshi, a sweet bread with raisins.

History

Zanjan was an important city in pre-Islamic times. The city was part of the Sassanid Empire, and later became a center of Islamic learning and culture. In the 19th century, Zanjan was the site of a major revolt against the Qajar dynasty.
